Unnao: In an unpardonable offence, the Uttar Pradesh Police omitted
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brothers’
name from the FIR lodged by an 18-year-old woman who claimed that she was
raped by them. Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh
Yadav has demanded the current CM Yogi Adityanath's resignation.
Shockingly, the father of the victim died while in judicial custody in
Unnao today. The family alleged that Pappu Singh, who was around 50 years
old, was killed. Singh was taken to a hospital from the district jail on
Sunday night and died during treatment today.

A panel of doctors will conduct the post-mortem examination of the victim
to ascertain the cause of death, said District Magistrate Ravi Kumar NG. A
probe has been ordered into the incident. Singh was taken into custody on
April 05 under the Arms Act after he was allegedly beaten up by Anil Singh,
the MLA's brother. Singh’s daughter had on Sunday tried to immolate herself
near Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Lucknow, alleging that
she was gang-raped by the BJP MLA and his brothers. The UP Police had,
however, foiled the immolation bid.

Gautampalli police station inspector Vijaysen Singh said, "The incident
took place outside the Golf Club gate (near the official residence of the
Chief Minister), where the girl from Unnao alleged that she was raped. She
also alleged that the Unnao police had not registered a case against the
BJP MLA despite her complaint and no action was taken." Sengar represents
the Bangermau constituency in Unnao district.

Five policemen, including the sub-inspector of Makhi police station, have
been suspended after the death of the father the victim. Unnao SSP has
suspended four constables and the sub-inspector, who was the station
officer, for sending the father to jail.

The girl was later made to appear before Rajiv Krishan, the Additional
Director General of Police, Lucknow, who ordered the Lucknow police to
conduct a probe. Refuting the allegations against him, Sengar said: "It is
a conspiracy hatched by my political opponents to tarnish my image and
damage my reputation...I have no problem with any probe. Let a probe be
conducted, and the guilty be given the stringent punishment. If I am found
guilty in the probe, I am ready to face punishment."
