[This is clearly violative of the recent Supreme Court order. This, in fact, is throwing revealing light on a crucial aspect, how the order is being implemented on the ground.
《An employee working with Odisha's electrical department has threatened to commit suicide after he was unable to withdraw his Employee Provident Fund (EPF), which he claimed was due to an error on his Aadhaar Card. ... Satyabrata Mohanty, Human Right Advocate, told ANI, "Not only in rural areas of the state but also in urban, lakhs of people still don't have an Aadhaar Card with correct details. Thousands of them till today do not possess Aadhaar Card. It is sad, that government is still forcing people to show Aadhaar Card for obtaining their own money.》 ***Apart from the various problems with the SC order - e.g. it simply kept its eyes shut to the stark reality of marginalised people being denied of "social welfare measures" because of either inability to obtain an Aadhaar number or failure of biometric authentication at the POS, leading to numerous tragic outcomes, the very implementation of the SC order, as it stands, has become a major question mark.*** The report reproduced below is a stark illustration. Here's a searing testimony from one on an FB group: <<My mother had to climb 4floors to visit an authorised aadhar centre to get her card. She was sent back cause her fingerprints and iris scan couldn't be attained because of her age. The second time she again climbed 4floors and only a part of her forefinger could be registered. All this hassle of no use as the biometric machines in banks etc are never able to register the prints. She has not received any subsidy or pension since 6months as a result. This whole system just sucks. It doesn't make any difference to the govt if a few hundred from billions die due to hunger or are left without money at that time of their life when they require it most, specially when they have religiously paid their taxes all their lives. Inspite of SC ruling the govt is not registering my daughter for a national contest without her aadhar. Didn't SC specify that aadhaar is not required by kids for any enrollment.>>] https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/odisha-aadhaar-error-forcing-me-to-commit-suicide-says-man-heres-why-1927275 "Will Be Forced To Commit Suicide", Says Man After Error In Aadhaar Card The man alleges that he is unable to withdraw his Employee Provident Fund (EPF) because of an error in Aadhaar card entry. All India | ANI | Updated: October 05, 2018 17:34 IST 'Will Be Forced To Commit Suicide', Says Man After Error In Aadhaar Card Man said that his family is suffering as he is unable to withdraw his EPF amount. MAYURBHANJ (ODISHA): An employee working with Odisha's electrical department has threatened to commit suicide after he was unable to withdraw his Employee Provident Fund (EPF), which he claimed was due to an error on his Aadhaar Card. The man, identified as Santosh Jena, has been working for the General Electrical Department in Baripada division of Mayurbhanj district in the state for last 30 years. Reflecting on his plight, Jena said that his date of birth on his unique identification card is different from the one mentioned on his birth certificate. "My salary here is very low. At present I am incapable of getting my daughter married and fund my son's education, which is why I wanted to withdraw my EPF. But due to wrong entry in the Aadhaar Card, I am unable to withdraw the deposited amount from my account," he said. "My family is suffering from the past one year because of lack of money. I now want to appeal to the government as well as the district administration of Mayurbhanj to help me, otherwise, I will be forced to commit suicide," he added. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) does have a provision for the change in the date of birth and other details. "In case the date of birth is to be updated more than once, it can only be done through an exception handling process which may require the resident to visit the Regional Office (RO) of the UIDAI," states the notification in the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016. Several critics argue that spreading awareness, especially in small towns and villages, is the need of the hour. Satyabrata Mohanty, Human Right Advocate, told ANI, "Not only in rural areas of the state but also in urban, lakhs of people still don't have an Aadhaar Card with correct details. Thousands of them till today do not possess Aadhaar Card. It is sad, that government is still forcing people to show Aadhaar Card for obtaining their own money. Mr Jena who has threatened to suicide had approached several government officers for getting the correction done on his Aadhaar Card but no efforts were taken by any department to help him." -- Peace Is Doable -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
