On May 5, Retired Colonel Ashok Kumar Singh, the managing director of the
Chamber of Commerce of Ex-Servicemen and the editor of Fauji Reporter,
slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for belittling his active years of
military service when he mocked cross-border operations carried out during
the UPA regime. He had said, “I think there are some people who play video
games, no matter how old they are,” he said. “Perhaps they think surgical
strikes are also some kind of video game.”

Singh took to Twitter, saying that he was left speechless by the Prime
Minister’s comments. He said, “Ten years of my active operations risking my
life for this country. This person Narendra Modi, who also is the Prime
Minister of India, says I played video games. What to say now?”

Modi has been attacking the Congress party ever since the latter had
announced in a press conference — in retaliation the saffron party’s
constant mentions of military successes during campaigning — of six
surgical strikes or cross-border operations that had taken place in the UPA
era.

Lieutenant General (Retd.) DS Hooda, the former chief of the Northern
Command who supervised the 2016 surgical strike, on May 4, too said that
surgical strikes were not a new thing. He said, “Call it surgical strikes,
call it cross border operations, they have been carried out in the past by
the Army…”
