People are speaking about `capitalism is in a crisis' with the hope that the road to socialism has become easier after this crisis. Somehow, I still have a strong doubt whether we are moving towards such a path. It may be partly true to the extend that people are looking for greater accountability in governance, use of resources in welfare like health and education, more concern for labour, farmers and other sections and many other areas of common good. However, what we are really facing is a test for democracy. The State in India has become much more powerful than ever. The Indian State has already proven that it can rule without considering the welfare of a population of 137 crores in this country and without considering the opinions of the stake holders. The power of the mighty is already established and the dissent is imprisoned. The Indian State is moving in a direction, telling us that the existing democratic laws have no more value, they can be easily thrown to the dustbins of history. It is moving towards absolute power and absolute control, where they demand only servitude from its population. The Indian Constitution has no value today for them as far as governance is concerned. It has evolved a framework on how modern Indian citizen should be, with adequate technical help for surveillance of every Indian citizen. Tomorrow, dissent will become a luxury. The recent developments of the emergence of communal fascism under the cover of Corona virus are strong indications to the crisis of Indian democracy. The test for the citizenship in India today is to what extent people can protect Indian Democracy and Indian Constitution. Aiysha Abdul Jaleel brings out some of the present indicators towards our struggle for the protection of Indian democracy. https://countercurrents.org/2020/05/corona-and-the-fascist-propaganda?fbclid=IwAR3PVZzswSN1OyF4Lgxl2EUV-NuJPpAJIg06PWjwIuRf7orzhg5JYaOMsUo
