Let's also not forget, the Amnesty International has just been coerced to
discontinue its operations in India as its bank accounts have been frozen
by the regime, in the wake of its report on the Delhi riots.

And a dalit girl was gangraped and then mutilated in UP. She breathed her
last after struggling for a fortnight in a hospital. The world came to know
of it only when the state police cremated her under the cover of darkness
against the wishes of the family members.

It's almost three decades; as far as my memory goes, the Newstrack had a
full video recording of the demolition.
The leaders, at the site, Uma Bharti in particular, were reported to be
ecstatic (ref.: <

Those present included, inter alia, L K Advani and M M Joshi.

*The verdict, of course, is a sign of the times.*
*To be more accurate, more than that, a straw in the wind*.

<<Thirty-two people including top BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar
Joshi and Uma Bharti have been acquitted of conspiracy charges in a
landmark verdict today in the Babri Masjid demolition case. A special
judge, whose term had been extended for this verdict, mentioned the case
background and reasons why they have been acquitted in a 2,300-page-long
judgment [in Hindi].>>

III.
It's truly remarkable or, to be more accurate, even in the recent past, it
would have been considered truly remarkable that a court would dismiss a
video evidence produced by the prosecution, just like that, labelling it as
inauthentic without even asking for a forensic test.
*But, that's the sign of the times*.
*Or, to be more accurate, a straw in the wind*.

<<The Congress has slammed the Lucknow Special Court's decision to acquit
all the accused in the 28-year-old Babri Masjid demolition case, saying it
held no one accountable even when the Supreme Court had called the
demolition illegal. The judgment, the party said, "runs counter" to the
Supreme Court judgment of last November and the spirit of the Constitution
and asked the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government to file an appeal in
a higher court.

The Lucknow court had said the temple demolition was not pre-planned and
there was "not enough evidence against the accused" whose ranks included
the BJP's founder members LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and top leaders
Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh.

The court had negated the video submitted by the Central Bureau of
Investigation, saying its authenticity cannot be proved and the audio was
bad. The court had also said "Anti-social elements had tried to demolish
the structure and the accused leaders had tried to stop them".

The Congress pointed out that in its November judgment allowing the
construction of a temple at the Ram Janambhoomi site in Ayodhya, the
Supreme Court had said the demolition of Babri Masjid was a clear
illegality and "egregious violation of the rule of law".>>
