The "fixed two years" tenure had been provided as per the direction of the
Supreme Court in the (celebrated) Prakash Singh case in order to ensure
professional autonomy for the occupants of these high offices.
Now, the "fixed 2" turns into "2+1+1+1".

So, the essence of the order is brazenly trampled upon and goes even well
beyond.
The concerned officials would, henceforth, be just at the beck and call of
the Boss - a lump of putty in his/her hands.

In fact, the provision for "extension", based on review, beyond the "fixed
term", on the face of it, doesn't only implicitly contravene the aforesaid
order, but, it's also an explicit breach of the redline.

The regime is just set upon making mincemeat of the structures of
"democracy".
About time to take note.

<<As per the ordinances promulgated on Sunday, a CBI or ED director can be
appointed first for a period of two years, but if needed, the tenure can be
extended for three more years. This will require three separate annual
extensions.>>
