Dear Brinda Karat ji and Sitaram ji, As you are aware, the Karnataka Government has passed the Anti-Conversion Bill in the legislative assembly, despite stiff opposition. As per your knowledge, it becomes a law only after it is passed in the upper house where BJP has one seat less. But many of us understand that they will be able to pass it. If it becomes a law, it will affect, Christians, Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis and Women. This is also a large chunk of votes. Wherever the Anti-Conversion Bill has been passed, the attacks on the minorities have increased since it becomes a justification for the Hindutva terrorists. Even though this draconian law can affect various communities and marginalised sections, it is primarily targeted against the Christians. We do appreciate the role of Brinda ji for coming to Kandhamal and supporting the cause of justice for the victims and survivors of Kandhamal. But if we have to say that no more Kandhamal should happen in India, then this law has to be opposed unanimously across all political differences. The National Solidarity Forum (NSF) has been involved in a campaign for the Repeal of Anti-Conversion Laws in India. As a part of such a campaign a signature campaign was initiated. Many well known personalities came forward to endorse the petition as initial signatories. Around 33,000 people have already signed the petition. I had written to both of you also.
