In its very essence, the current crisis of the Sena arises out of one structural and one conjunctural factor.
The structural one is the fact that the Sena had to go into a very unnatural, and presumably transient, alliance with the NCP-Congress in the state in order to regain its long held edge over its traditional ally. While the opening gambit went remarkably well, the route leading to the end-game - going back to the old alliance after regaining it's dominant status, kept becoming more and more tangled. In fact, in the process, the relationship between the two estranged partners got progressively more difficult. That triggered huge unease in its support base. The conjunctural factor is the highhanded manner of the party supremo inherited from his way more charismatic father. There's is, of course, a third factor here - the huge elephant in the room. The blatant leveraging of the state and money power by the BJP - in brazen disregard of all democratic and ethical norms, in order to encash the turbulence in the Sena ranks to unseat the incumbent ruling coalition in the state. Given the utterly murky situation, the least undesirable resolution would be the immediate dissolution of the state assembly, duly followed by a poll at the soonest. The fall of the MVA government in Maharashtra - engineered by the BJP, would, of course, further speed up the dismantlement of "India" - already pretty much underway, steered by the incumbent regime in Delhi.
