Note: WHO and ILO have recommended ban on asbestos including white chrysotile asbestos for elimination of incurable asbestos related diseases. In April 2022, Indian minister of health & chemicals, Mansukh Mandviya admitted 10 cases of asbestos victims in 50 factories which were surveyed during 2018-2019 but defended import of asbestos from Russia, Brazil, China & Kazakhstan. He also defended India's opposition to listing of chrysotile asbestos in the UN list of hazardous substances under Rotterdam Convention.
Notably, Brazilian Supreme Court has declared use of asbestos to be unconstitutional. Indian Supreme Court has recommended compliance with resolution of ILO on asbestos.
