This is an attempt, obviously, meant to assault the very core of Hindutva
ideology in order to delegitimise it in public perception.
Maybe some more is in the pipeline.
Clearly shows up his keenness to get into an ideological battle regardless
of its short-term impact on local electoral prospects.
The intention, obviously, is to challenge the very legitimacy of the
packaging of Hindutva politics as "nationalism".

It's aimed to go well beyond the limits of pragmatism -- Jod-Tod ka
politics.
Uddhav's response is inconsequential -- from that point of view.
Rahul is evidently trying to play for a much higher stake.

He has, of course, solid facts--well-documented--very much on his side.
Understandably, he has done his homework.
Even then -- given the current circumstances and the role of the mainstream
media, in particular -- it's, no doubt, a tough and daring venture.

As far as the police complaint is concerned, guess, cases are already there.
It, in any case, is not contempt of court.
Truth is a legitimate defence in a defamation case.
Even if lower courts play nasty, the higher courts are likely to provide
relief.
Moreover, in case of hearing, the courtroom itself will become a podium.
Providing further boost to the campaign.
And, finally, the blanket of silence of the mainstream media over the Yatra
is getting lifted!

*"I have a document that comprises Savarkar's letter to (the) British in
which he has stated 'I beg to remain, sir, your most obedient servant'.
This is not written by me... but Savarkarji. Let everyone read this
document," Gandhi said."I am very clear that he helped the British," he
said, brandishing the letter he said Savarkar wrote to the British;
sections of which were highlighted in blue."Savarkar signed this letter
whereas Mahatma Gandhi, pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
were in prison for years… did not write any letter. I believe Savarkarji
signed this letter because of fear," the Congress leader said.*
