Well... it's not very clear in french... let's take an example:

Do(ab)mi(ab)

For the first syllable, the arguments will be those:

\syllable{D}{o}{}{0}{m}{i}

you can see that the 5th and 6th arguments (and not the 4th and 5th as I 
wrote in the paragraph, if you can correct that it would be perfect ;)) 
are the first two letters of the next syllable. In fact the 5th is the 
letters before the aligned letters, so if we take another example :

Do(ab)mmii(ab)

it will be

\syllable{D}{o}{}{0}{mm}{ii}

is it more understandable?

It means that these syllables contain only a bar and no notes (they can 
contain letters or not), they have a special alignment.
