I'd like to propose a reorganization of the web site, to make the most
important information (for new users) prominent.
Here is the current version:
* Gregorio
o Past & future
o Technical aspects
o Download
o Installation
* Gregorian chant
o Structure
o Written form
o Examples
* GregorioTeX
o TeX?
o Introduction
o Detailed description
* gabc
o Introduction
o Complete description
* GregorioXML
o Introduction
o Complete description
* Contact
* Links
**Limitations of the current version**
At present, it is not easy for new users to find material most important
to them.
They want to know:
-- What kind of results can I get? (People want images.)
-- What features does this software offer?
-- What is the basic use procedure?
-- Is the interface graphical? text-oriented?
But they cannot find even the basic usage commands easily. They are,
more or less, hidden from users who read the site for the first time!
So I propose:
* Gregorio Project
o About << formerly "Past & Future".
<< (Add the Logo description here.)
<< (Acknowledge past developers.)
* Gregorio Software
o Features << new: a promotional page, in effect
o Download
o Installation
o Basic Usage << formerly "GregorioTeX/introduction"
o for Developers << formerly "Technical aspects"
<< (put "Future work" here.)
* gabc notation
o Score Attributes << was "gabc/introduction"
o Notation fundamentals << The long "details" page...
o Advanced notation << ...could become three pages
o Examples << Add some short examples
* GregorioTeX
o TeX?
o Detailed description
* Gregorian chant typesetting
o Neumes and elements << formerly "Structure"
o Alignment << formerly "Graphie"
o Older manuscripts << formerly "Examples"
* GregorioXML
o Introduction
o Complete description
* Contact
* Links
Two sections of information should be moved:
1) "The Icon" would fit better in "About", not "Technical details".
2) "Future work" would fit better in the "for Developers" page.
