Details:
It should be possible to put the following signs near to a neume to show the
speed of the figure or if it should be sung separately:
a for altius - higher
s for sursum - sing the note higher than the one before
l for levare - sing higher
(these three are used similarly in the manuscripts)
i for iusum - lower than before
h for humiliter - same as before, Neumes from Laon
e/eq for equaliter - same pitch as before
c for celeriter - sing quickly
t for tenere - sing slowly and hold
st for statim - do not make a pause
x for expectare - wait here
m for mediocriter - do c, i, l moderate
n for non - don't divide neumatic figure
p for parvum - similar to m
These signs can be written in any normal roman font or - as suggested by
Élie, in a medieval font, for example carolmin.
