Hi,

I basically defined a new environment to temporarily change the  
margins, as on this page:
http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=chngmargonfly

Then you can just do something like this, which increases the RH  
margins by 1 inch and the LH margin by 3.5 inches:

\begin{changemargin}{1in}{3.5in} % neg. values narrow the margins/make  
score wider
\includescore{somescore}
\end{changemargin}

Though it won't help in the specific case you mentioned of shortening  
one line of a multiline score... I'll have to think about that, but I  
don't think it would be trivial, as the staff lines are drawn before  
knowing how long the notes will actually extend on it....
