Ok... Do you think it's possible to lauche a command as a user during 
the automatic mac installation? I'm not sure but it would be interesting 
to figure that out... Otherwise with dirty things like looking at the 
different users home directories if a .texlive2008 exists, and if it 
does, launching a updmap with the good outputdir options, and set up the 
good rights on the files... It would be dirty but it would work and, 
honestly, it wouldn't be the less dirty thing in TeX... do you think you 
can handle it?

I think contrib would be the best destination, macosx would be like 
cygwin: only for the installer.
