Hi,

I'm using Fedora 11; you might remember me from April when I was trying to use
lamed and encountering memory problems. I didn't have time for it a while, but
I thought I'd look at it again tonight.

At the time it seemed my problem was texlive 2007. I removed that, then
downloaded and installed texlive using tug's installer. It appeared to install
texlive 2008.

I tried to use pdflualatex and received the following output:

    bash: pdflualatex
    This is LuaTeX, Version snapshot-0.25.4-2008081309 (Web2C 7.5.7)

    kpathsea: Running mktexfmt lualatex.fmt
    I can't find the format file `pdflualatex.fmt'!

Okay, so the luatex is out of date, but that's not the real problem: the .fmt
files are missing. Somewhere online I found an explanation that this can be
fixed using a file pdflualatex.ini but this isn't anywhere on the system,
either.

I had had a similar problem with texlive 2007; kpathsea demands a
pdflualatex.fmt file. I thought solved that under texlive 2007, but then it
complained that \documentclass was an unknown command. luatex would work with
tex files, just not latex files. Google grinding indicated that I was missing
a file called pdflualatex.ini.

So the problem doesn't appear to be texlive 2007 at this point. I've switched
back to the texlive 2007 that Fedora supplies. I can install context and
luatex in this setup, but can anyone point me to a guide that will get the
initialization files I need to run luatex? I like gregorio a lot; I just can't
get the latex files to process :-(

regards
john perry
