There are several ways to control the size of the print area on a page.
Depending upon exactly what you want to do, the following may be of use to you:
\pdfpagewidth=8.5in
\pdfpageheight=11in
\textwidth =
\textheight =
\oddsidemargin =
\evensidemargin =
\topmargin =
\headheight =
\headsep =
I use the above to control the margins etc.
