Hi Bernard, That's very strange. The stock Unix way of '# make install' shouldn't make the package manager aware of the install. If you still have the source folder on your computer, can you do a '# make uninstall' and then a '# checkinstall'? That way you can be sure that a deb package is produced and installed, so that it definitely is registered by the package manager, and that you'll have the chance to edit the version number of the deb file when you install it.
