Dear Gregorio Users,

I have frequently been plagued by a problem where I have to use a
neumatic cut (/) to get the right neume shape, but do not want the
neume to have the potential of a line break at that point. For me at
least (and I'd be interested to hear other perspectives) it is ok to
break a line within a neume on a melismatic chant like a Gradual or
Tract, but I find it odd on syllabic or neumatic chants like hymns or
antiphons.

When I was looking over http://home.gna.org/gregorio/gabc/details
again, I noticed the following line: "Note that for practical reasons,
a space can be set unbreakable if you precede it with the character !
" Am I correct in understanding that this will address my problem,
namely, that I should put a ! before every / in a neumatic chant?

Yours,

br. Innocent, op
