What you've got in your email are non-breaking hyphens (unicode hex 2011), not normal ones (unicode hex 002D). If that's exactly what you entered at the command line, it's not going to work because must use the regular hyphen in order to be recognized as options. If you have some sort of "smart character" replacement tool enabled, try turning it off and typing the command again.
