I'd hesitate to call this a bug. The "join" command is supposed to be
a fairly general method for structured data import, and as such it has
no provision for metadata import.
I would not expect it to ship metadata from 3rd party programmes but at
least from gretl data files (as you say below).
OTOH, in the special case when the outer file is gdt, I think this
could be provided quite safely.
And also the gdtb file type, right?
