GRIA 5.3.1 is now available for download:

  http://www.gria.org/downloads

This release is primarily to improve the ease of use of the client GUI.
In addition many bugs have been fixed including some important ones
affecting the monitoring and management of jobs by the SLA service. In
comparison to 5.3.1-rc1, this release has fixed more bugs, and provides
support for nonProxyHosts.

Client
------

The 5.3.1 release makes the GRIA client GUI much easier to use, for
instance:

    * The interface for managing the client's identity is improved.
    * The "Add policy rule" interface is easier to use.
    * Existing jobs can easily be resubmitted with different arguments.
    * When a job finishes, the status of its data stagers is
automatically updated.
    * The user of the client can choose to trust a service's

 permanently.
    * Support http.nonProxyHosts and https.nonProxyHosts settings.

In addition there are two useful new features for developers:

    * The mechanism for generating a GRIA DLL for use on .NET platforms
is improved.
    * A new AttributeSelector (SAMLGenerator) has been added to allow
clients embedded in portals to generate their own SAML assertions.

SLA Service
-----------

There have been many bug fixes and improvements in the SLA Service for
this release:

    * Views of SLAs and SLA templates now show all constraints and
pricing terms.
    * The SLA Service is robust to incorrect usage reports.
    * The job service sends better usage reports and is therefore managed
by the SLA Service more effectively.
    * A database transaction error could cause the SLA service to resend
bills to the Account Service unnecessarily.
    * In the pull-point management system, not all activities at a pull-
point were always displayed.
    * The SLA template editor now deals with different numerical formats
from different locales.
    * A better error message is returned to the client when trying to
create a new activity on a closed SLA.
    * The security policy management interface has been reorganised to
make it clearer.
    * Compatibility fixes for the latest versions of Tomcat.

There are also two useful new features:

    * The ConstraintManager uses a new management action
(ConstrainActivity) to stop but not destroy jobs that are exceeding their
constraints.
    * The SLA Service warns about SLA templates that will soon expire in
the Atom feed.

It is strongly recommended that the GRIA Basic Applications Services
package is also upgraded to v5.3.1 to take full advantage of the better
job management facilities.

Job and Data Services
---------------------

There have been several bug fixes and improvements for the job and data
service for this release, including:

    * The usage reports coming from the resource manager and application
scripts are now handled correctly.
    * Jobs can now have zero inputs and/or zero outputs.
    * The security policy management interface has been reorganised to
make it clearer.
    * Compatibility fixes for the latest versions of Tomcat.

There are also three useful new features:

    * Adding a ".debug" file to a job's work directory means that the
files in the directory will not be deleted when the job completes.
    * A new "watermark" tutorial application is included which
demonstrates all the features of the application wrappers including
custom application metric reporting and a custom kill script.
    * If a job exceeds its SLA constraints it will now be stopped instead
of destroyed.

It is strongly recommended that the GRIA Service Provider Management
package is also upgraded to v5.3.1 to take full advantage of the improved
job management by the SLA service.

Note that we have also changed the deployment of our demo servers.
griademo1 and griademo2 are now running in virtual machines to ease
management. We have taken the opportunity to reinstall from scratch, as a
large number of test accounts and SLAs had built up over the years.

Please contact supp...@gria.org if you have any questions or problems
about GRIA.
