Hmmm. Strange. I'll admit that I've never seen anything like this before.

Could you please let us know the laptop model number/type, hard drive 
model/type, and attach/include the output of something like "lshw -class disk 
-class storage -short" (I'm assuming that grml contains lshw, but I can't check 
that assumption right now).
