If you want to use Resolution with 1280x1024 in VMWare you have to patch this
file:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.vmware
You have to change Hz to this:
HorizSync 33.0 - 74.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
And also add 1280x1024 in each Modelines it show now like that:
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
Maybe it would be a idea to integrate this settings to main grml build. This
settings are tested under VMWare 5.5
