If you run vmware on linux there is is a problem with the cstate the
processor is running.

Try to run 
,----
| echo 1 > /sys/module/processor/parameters/max_cstate
`----

You can reset this with
,----
| echo 8 > /sys/module/processor/parameters/max_cstate
`----
