Peter Cylinder 1 should start at sector 63. Cylinder 0 is sectors 0 to 62. This is standard msdos disk partitioning. So if you compare the partition editor commands
# parted /dev/sda unit s print and # parted /dev/sda unit cyl print perhaps you can see where you are. I've never made a grml2usb as on my old system the bios will not boot from the usb but I hope this is some help.
