[Groff] grops error message

Hello Folks,

groff and grops are on  the intel SnowLeopard machines.
The following thing:

        groff -se -I $D_gr1 -P -Pprologue-1.19.2-ms <  inputfile  > outputfile

that worked before, gives the following error message:

        grops:<standard input>:4:fatal error: cannot create temporary file: No 
such file or directory

I don't know what file does it want to create, why can't create it if su issues 
the command.

Any idea, please
