Hi,
I've just heard of SyncTeX and thought it might interest the list. When
processing TeX, an auxilliary output file is created that can be used by
third parties, e.g. text editor and PDF viewer, to synchronise their
position. The viewer can move to the editor's location, or vica versa,
down to highlighting the word selected.
It seems Jérôme Laurens's article on TUGboat,
http://www.tug.org/TUGboat/tb29-3/tb93laurens.pdf
is the primary source of information. It occurred to me that if the
foo.synctex.gz file's format makes sense in the troff world, then
producing it would let us re-use the text editor and typeset viewer
support that exists. And it could be of general technical interest.
:-)
Cheers, Ralph.
