I see the groff.7.man file in Git HEAD now states:

       \u     Move upward ½ vee (½ line in nroff).

May I ask what a 'vee' is as I don't see it defined in that page.

Is it related to this:

              v         Vertical line space in basic units

If so, then it might be useful to add '(vee)' at the end of the
statement.

If nothing else, you made me read the page more closely!  :-O
