Pardon me if my reply is slightly beside the point of the core issue you raise, but I'd like to point you to a possible workaround if mails keep being too large for your taste: I read this - and other mailing lists - through gmane.io which (in case you don't know it) is a mail-to-news gateway. So, you interact with the mailing list via a news server and a news reader. This has the advantage that you'll get a listing of new mails without actually having to download them. E.g. mutt with the nntp patch (neomutt?) and slrn can be set up to show the sizes of the mails in the index, giving you the opportunity to avoid opening mails that you deem too large. You can even score messages based on size. Not quite to the point, but hopefully still relevant. ;) Regards, Morten
