Additionally, if you care about getting the best performance on your hardware be aware that distro-packaged GROMACS versions are generally optimized for the lowest common denominator CPU architectural capabilities and will not be able to make the best use of modern CPU instructions sets. Hence, if performance matter for you, do compile from source.
