Throw out the Growl prefpane, GrowlMail menu bundle, GrowlSafari input
manager, and GrowlTunes application.
The first three will be in one or both of the Library folders. Make
sure you check both of them. Growl.prefPane is in Library/Preference\
Panes, GrowlMail is in Library/Mail/Bundles, and GrowlSafari is in
Library/InputManagers. GrowlTunes is wherever you put it.

Applications talk to Growl, so if the application is showing up in
Growl's list, you probably just haven't done whatever the application
notifies about.
In the specific case of GrowlMail, it *is* trying to notify—that's
where the crash occurs.
