Hello Mo,

This problem has been posted herer several times and you can stop it
yourself...

1. Go to Mac system Preferences

2. Double click the Growl icon under Other

3. When the Growl dialog opens, click on the About tab

4. UNcheck the "Check for updates automatically" box at the bottom.

5. Close everything. Done!

When you update to Leopard, you may need to reverse the process
