I too am experiencing the ~32Gb VM size in Activity Monitor issue,
which gave me the heebie-jeebies, Until...

I checked the actual vm size

du -h /private/var/vm

And it came back 4.2Gb, and that's mostly the sleepimage (I have 4Gb
RAM so that make the VM 200M or so)

So, I concled that Activity Monitor is doing some pretty crayzee
reporting of VM sizes per process.

I googled this, and found a discussion here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2069474&tstart=885

Others are experiencing this issue with Activity Monitor in general,
so it looks like Growl is not the culprit.

Cheers,
Ian White
