based on some statistics Chris pulled up back at the start of

from growl.info and the google code website…
Another factor is that reviewers, such as those at Macworld, tend
to mention Growl support:
<http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&num=20&q=site%3Amacworld.com+-inurl%3Aforums+inurl%3Aarticle+-intitle%3AGrowl+-intitle%3AHardwareGrowler+intitle%3AReview+Growl&aq=f&aqi=&oq=

Such a mention instantly makes your app more attractive to any
Growl users who read the review.
On the flip side, an app that posts its own kind of notifications
and does not support growl, instantly becomes less attractive to
Growl users. I have, in the past, actively gone out to look for a
Growl-supporting alternative when this happened.
How many users agree with the following statement?
“Where applicable, lack of growl support is a bug, not a feature
request”
I don't know if I'd agree with that. Growl has been around for 5-6
years now, but it's still relatively new to people. New people are
finding it every week (including new developers).
I think we need help from people on this list revamping our website
content to make it better, so that users can send a single link to
developers saying "here's growl, here's why I need it, here's the
justification for adding it in, and here's how hard it will be. here's
how to test it working in your app. here's the decisions the framework
makes, and why it does xyz things".
also,
Qt automatically puts growl support into any app that uses its
system tray messaging:

Now that is cool.
