Omni is doing something on their end I bet. It's actually kind of neat. For example, in GrowlMail we have a summary mode that will show you something like that. But that's specific to GrowlMail and not specific to Growl. Make sense?
I'd contact Omni and find out if there's a way to change that behavior. First I would dig around OmniFocus preferences to see if this is configurable.
