First, open Dropbox's Preferences window and uncheck the “Show Dropbox
notifications (using Growl)” checkbox.
Until you check that box, Dropbox will reinstall Growl (if it doesn't find it)
every time you launch it.
Then, once you've turned off Growl support in Dropbox, look here:
Your startup disk
Library
PreferencePanes
There's probably an item there named Growl.prefPane. Move it to the Trash.
Next, look here:
Your Home folder
Library
PreferencePanes
There's probably not an item there named Growl.prefPane, but if there is, move
it to the Trash.
Next, open up the Activity Monitor and search for Growl. Anything you find
running, use Quit Process to tell it to quit.
You may also want to delete the settings saved by Growl. Those are in two
folders:
Your Home folder
Library
Application Support
Growl
Preferences
com.growl.growlhelperapp.plist
Move the Growl folder and the com.growl.growlhelperapp.plist file to the Trash.
Once you've moved all of those things to the Trash, you can empty the Trash to
delete them.
