So I did several things.

tcpdump -i en0 -n port 67
tcpdump -i en0 -n port 68
tcpdump -i ppp0 -n port 67
tcpdump -i ppp0 -n port 67

Port 67 is DHCP requests
Port 68 is DHCP responses
en0 is my Ethernet
ppp0 is my Verizon Aircard

When I ran the tcpdump, I waited for several of the hardwaregrowler
"IP Address Acquired" messages to appear. However nothing showed up
in the dump. Did this for both my ethernet and aircard. And, as I
mentioned previously, my Airport works fine. I never see a
hardwaregrowler message other than the initial DHCP request.
