Well, that sucks.
Manual uninstallation instructions:
First, open up System Preferences and click on the Growl prefpane and click
“Stop Growl”.
(If the Growl prefpane doesn't show up for some reason, use Activity
Monitor—search for “GrowlHelperApp”, select the item that finds, and click
“Quit Process” in the toolbar.)
Next, you need to remove Growl.prefPane. It's in one or both of two places:
Your Home folder
Library
PreferencePanes
Growl.prefPane
Your startup disk
Library
PreferencePanes
Growl.prefPane
