User Tom Sims posted the question below back in July. I was having the exact same issue with clutter in the "Forward notifications to other computers" list (with 10.6.6 and Growl 1.2.1). Tom's question popped up on a google search, so at least I knew I wasn't completely alone. It took a while, but I figured out a solution. Since the format of his posting didn't allow for a public reply, I thought I'd start a new thread so anyone else having the problem can resolve it in far less time than it took me. I tried searching for other solutions, but it doesn't seem to be a widespread concern. The fix is described after Tom's original posting below:
--------------------------------- From: Tom Sims <[email protected]> Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2010 07:05:10 -0700 (PDT) Local: Tues, Jul 13 2010 9:05 am Subject: Network Tab - Remove Computer Names When I open System Preferences (Mac OS X 10.6.4) and click on Growl and then click on Network the list of computers includes several that are no longer on my network or have new names. How can I delete those names are no longer current computers on the network. Thanks. -------------------------------- Note all your Growl preference settings, they will be reset to default values. Complete the following instructions precisely: 1. Open the Growl system preference pane, "General" tab. 2. UNcheck the "Show Growl icon in the menu bar" box if it is checked. 3. Stop Growl. 4. (important) Quit system preferences. 5. Navigate to the user/library/preferences folder. 6. Move the "com.Growl.GrowlHelperApp.plist" file to the trash. 7. Empty the trash. 8. Open the Growl system preference pane. 9. Check the Network Tab, within seconds, the "Forward notifications to other computers" list should be repopulated only with any computers that are currently on the network set to listen. 10. Restart Growl. 11. Reset Growl menu icon and other preferences as desired. 12. Repeat for any other user's accounts affected. There are other ways of accomplishing this (ie. trashing the prefs while Growl, Growl helper, Growl menu, and System prefs are closed); by using ActivityMonitor, or by uninstalling and re-installing (you still have to trash the prefs manually), or by disconnecting from the network and opening the Growl preference pane (and waiting and waiting) but what I described above is, I think, the simplest and fastest (doesn't involve logging out, or re-booting, or disconnecting or downloading & re-installing). cheers, d -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Growl Discuss" group.
