I've read the "How did Growl get on your system?" page. HP is not listed as one of the culprit products. However, I see Growl in its installer-package contents, and Growl appeared on my Mac(s) the same date and time that I installed a new HP printer. It did not ask permission to install Growl.
Odd: I use Skype, and I recognize Growl's floater-window type notification from Skype, but I never saw a Preference Pane for Growl before.
