I solved my problem. Basically, I was trying to get Adium message to show up on my phone in case I'm away and an important message comes through. For anybody else trying to do this, I'll write out the steps here.
I used this plugin: http://jcs.org/notaweblog/2010/12/28/pipe_event_plugin_for_adium/ You can install directly to Adium here: http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=7852 I then made a new gmail account. I then made a short python script that will send emails to myself using this new gmail account. You can google for a similar script or write your own pretty easily (or message me if you'd like me to provide it - just don't want to clutter this email). I used the Adium Piped Event plugin as the default action every time a new message is received to run that script. I then added the new gmail account to my phone. And now, whenever I get a new message, several seconds later I have a new email on my phone. Then I can decide if I want to sign in to jabber on the phone and continue the conversation or go back to the computer. Basically, I found a way around using Growl which involves many steps, but all pretty basic. However, I would still much rather to just use Growl.
