Folks, Great news. The CTO of Dropbox just sent me an update. As of Thursday, there is a new version out which no longer installs Growl. It will however use Growl. I haven't checked this myself, but since he seems like a pretty good guy and has kept me well informed I have no reason to doubt that we have a resolution to this.
