Hey Peter, That Skype thing makes sense, it'd explain why the formatting of the box wasn't what i'd set in Growl.
I installed that app and clicked notify and it worked! A box appeared in the top right which was the to the formatting i'd set in growl and if i pressed it again another would appear so it was definitely Growl..
