Running the current version also means not having to deal with update messages. 
The last version we released was in late May, so you've had over a month to 
update.

If you have updated and still have been getting daily update notifications in 
the past month, it means you have multiple copies of Growl installed*, and the 
one that's running is the older one. Our Installer package is supposed to clear 
that up automatically, but for some unknown reason, that fails for some users, 
so the older Growl remains present after installation of the newer Growl. 
Uninstalling and then reinstalling solves that once and for all.

You're correct that our move to the Mac App Store will resolve this. I envision 
Growl 1.3 killing older Growl processes on sight, and perhaps warning you as 
well that you have an old Growl installed and advising you to remove it.
