The only way I've found to enable a *re*-install is as follows:

1. *Disconnect* any backup drive(s). [You might want to consider not
letting Spotlight index these external drives.]
2. *Find* every piece of Growl you can find.

A. This includes any earlier version of Growl, also.

i. Don't forget to look in your PrefPane list, Application Support folder,
etc.

ii. Use any and every 'search' tool you have available, including your
eyeballs! ;-)

B. You can simply collect all the files and place them in a folder and the
use the Finder "Compress" command. This effectively hides them from the OS.

C. Now, take the originals and move them to the Trash.

D. Empty the Trash.

3. *Restart* the Mac*.*

4. *Open* the *Mac App Store*. You should now see the Growl screen showing
an "Install" button/label.

5. Click the "Install" button. You will probably be asked for your Apple ID.

You should now find Growl in your applications folder. It should not be in
your System Preferences. And remember, Growl only works when developers of
other apps have made changes in their apps to work with the new version.

Hope this helps.
