I assume you are using GrowlMail? (It's not Growl notifying you about Mail; Growl just displays notifications it's sent) There is a separate GrowlMail forum here: http://groups.google.com/group/growlmail-discuss where it looks like your question has even been asked recently. Hope that can help :)
