I'm sorry you feel that way. However, the changes required to get Growl into the app store basically mean that we were going to run into these problems. Unfortunately we didn't know how widespread the problem was until after releasing 1.3.
You'll need to wait until Developers update their support for Growl 1.3.x, or use the provided workarounds.
