Then you have multiple copies of Growl installed, one of which is older than
1.2.2. That's the one that's notifying.
A common cause of this was some versions of Dropbox installing the older Growl
without permission, and in an unusual place. (Current versions of Dropbox no
longer install Growl, thankfully.)
The solution for you is to uninstall Growl using the Growl Uninstaller and
then, if you want to continue using it, either reinstall 1.2.2 or install 1.3.
You can get the uninstaller from the Growl downloads page:
http://growl.info/downloads
It only deletes Growl, not settings, so all of your settings will remain intact.
