I think the suggestion was to make sure your list of apps are the most
current. By default, anything you get from the Mac App Store is always
"fully updated." But the apps that actually use Growl for
notifications may not have come from there and they may also need
updating. Furthermore, have you used Growl Version Detective (<http://
growl.info/downloads> General Downloads area)? It will tell you what
frameworks those other apps are using and you can update the
frameworks from there.

Remember, Growl doesn't work alone, it must have apps that know how to
"talk" to it and in the correct way. ;-)
